HEMSMITH is a minimalist brand focusing on seasonless apparel for the modern person, but why do we choose to be minimalists ourselves? Beyond the multiple overstated reasons that can be found through a simple Google search, here are three of our own.
IT'S EDUCATIONAL
The most understated value about living a minimalist lifestyle is education. Through the process of cleaning your household, buying fewer materialistic possessions, and creating more room for comfort, you learn about yourself. You learn about your own personal values, your good vs. bad habits, and your lifestyle. Living through a minimalist's viewpoint, you learn to fix the messes hidden underneath and discipline yourself on the trivial (including where to spend your money).
QUALITY OVER QUANTITY
Everyone repeats "less is more", but what does that actually look like? For the minimalist, it means not buying multiple shirts from the nearest fast fashion brand that will be gathering dust in your closet in 2 months time because it ripped after one wash - instead, saving up to buy one quality outfit that you can be proud to wear this year, next year, and the year after that.
BREATHING ROOM
We all know that minimalism is about cleanliness, but cleanliness isn't just for the sake of "being clean". It's also for your peace of mind, some room to breathe. Being able to confidently show yourself and everything you possess to people around you in true form without touching a feather is only half of the argument. The other side is all about you. It's about giving yourself some much needed space and air for calmness.

CREATING NEW FROM OLD

With the introduction of our newest collection, NORDIC BLUE, we decided to do something we’ve never really done before. As a company, we’re known for developing our own fabrics to use in our collections, but our minimalist, mindful approach always seems to come into play. 
Scroll through NORDIC BLUE and you’ll notice pieces crafted from a light grey, almost crosshatched fabric. That’s actually our wool-linen blend—a deadstock that was stored away in our factory.
Instead of producing a new material, we thought, “Why not use what we already have?” It’s our way of lessening the impact of wasteful production while also doing what we love—making timeless, understated clothing. 
So moving forward, we’ll be utilizing fabrics, like our wool-linen blend, more often, producing pieces in limited quantities. We wanted to do our part in minimizing our footprint and are excited to see where this new creative journey will take us.

 We're always looking for new environments to showcase our meticulously-tailored pieces, and found a partnership with Upton seamless and beautiful. Their space provides the perfect backdrop for our world of luxuriously soft and comfortable fabrics  - in effortlessly sophisticated silhouettes ranging from wardrobe essentials to wardrobe statement pieces . With so much to choose from, there is certainly something for everyone. 

*psst…we’re totally into easy care so feel free to machine wash most of this stuff. 





With Upton's constantly shifting log of up-and-coming brands, we're among like-minded cohorts in the world of direct-to-consumer goods with a sincere focus on putting out quality over quantity. In an incubator-like space, the enthusiasm for new ideas and concepts is constant, giving way to a creative space for brands to showcase their individuality with the support of each other.
